Wading is a trainable skill!
Wading is a trainable skill. More importantly, every individual component that intersects within the act of wading is also trainable. A quick online search will yield plenty of resources on basic wading technique, and we’ll address that later in this course. What has been largely absent, however, is an integrated method that combines evidence-based mobility training, functional movement, and the science of mindfulness. That is where the Wade Well Method comes in.
Wading is a whole-body practice and should be approached as such. It can serve as a barrier to entry for newcomers who lack experience navigating moving water. It can lead to physical injury or mental distress that may, in some cases, be avoidable. It can also discourage anglers from continuing to pursue the sport later in life for a variety of physical or psychological reasons. When we overlook the complexity of wading, we overlook an opportunity to build resilience and longevity.
Wading is not required in order to fly fish. There are many ways to immerse yourself in the therapeutic practice of angling without stepping into the water. But for those who view wading as an integral and compelling part of their experience, this course is designed to support and elevate that aspect of mindful movement. Below is an overview of the topics we will explore together.
