The trainer in the niche nobody else was filling.
I'm Lindsay Kocka — and I spent years training athletes and everyday people across various disciplines and backgrounds before I noticed a glaring gap.
Anglers and guides, people engaging in genuinely demanding physical movement for hours at a time in difficult terrain, weren't training specifically for any of it. They were sustaining injuries and chronic pain, wearing out early in a season, arriving at expensive destination trips with bodies that weren't ready, and prematurely “aging out” of the sport. Not because they didn't care about the culture, community, or adventures, but because nobody had built a training program specifically for them. Wade Well was my answer to that gap.
Background
I'm a Bozeman-based outdoor performance trainer with 15+ years of experience working across general population fitness and specialized athletic coaching. I hold certifications in Functional Range Conditioning (FRC), MovNat Level 1, FRCms, Yoga Medicine Yoga for Athletes, and related movement and mobility disciplines — and a B.A. in Anthropology, where I studied human behavior, physical anthropology, and human evolution: how our bodies and brains are shaped by environment, adaptation, and movement. That framework still informs how I think about training today.
Over the years I've worked with recreational anglers, competitive rock climbers, cyclists, lifting athletes, professional fishing guides, and people across all ages and backgrounds. I'm also an avid fly angler myself— which means I understand the fishing side of this equation, not just the training side.
As a consultant and program designer, I've worked with brands and organizations including Patagonia, Arc'teryx, lululemon, Athleta, prAna, The North Face, Free People, Anthropologie, SheJumps, Casting for Recovery, Anchored Outdoors, The Angler's Academy, The School of Trout, Sage Lodge, Copper Rose Ranch, Bodhi Farms, Chico Hot Springs, FFI Women Connect, and Take Me Fishing.
The Wade Well Method
Wade Well is a training method and coaching business built around one core idea: the best angling of your life is still in front of you, if your body is prepared to meet it.
That means training for real-world demands. Wading slippery cobble in a current, holding an athletic stance on the bow for sometimes hours at a time, carrying a loaded pack into a backcountry lake, and staying sharp and coordinated amidst a 10-hour day on the water. Not to mention recovering fast enough to show up feeling solid and ready tomorrow.
The method utilizes applied balance and sensory training, and nervous system regulation. It doesn't require a gym, and it doesn't require experience with formal fitness. It requires showing up consistently and training with the actual demands of fishing in mind, and yes, sometimes the work does feel like work. It’s necessary and it’s worth your time and effoty.
